Mukesh Mehta, a private real estate developer appointed adviser to the Government of Maharashtra has produced a variety of plans for Dharavi based on the notion that the residents of Dharavi are squatting on government land. The Slum Redevelopment Authority is supportive of the notion that the redevelopment of Dharavi should generate resources for the government, even if that means evacuating a portion of the residents and increasing the population density of the area, which is already one of the highest in the world.
